Hi Stellar Students!
I am out sick today. :( Please follow the below agenda for today's class. We will be discussing Ceremony on Monday. I have some hard copies of materials available to you in class, but everything you need is also linked here! READ THROUGH items #1-5 all the way THEN begin working. Whatever you don't finish in class is homework unless you all band together and agree it was an insane amount of work and my expectations are ludicrous. (I will remind you, however, that y'all did sign up for an advanced class with Carruthless, you masochists!) Ok. GO! 1. COURSE CALENDAR: Please review the course calendar for the rest of the semester to see what the homework is, and the schedule for finishing Ceremony and completing your final project. NOTE: I made some changes to the reading schedule (you're welcome Kristina) given that I believe we needed more time to process this complex novel. Hardcopies available in class. Also linked above. 2. FINAL PROJECT OVERVIEW: Read through the entire final project description and jot down any questions/confusions you have. Email me those questions! Note the deadlines in red on page 2 for each of the steps of this project. Use the digital version only since it has all the helpful embedded links. 3. Gaining context on Thursday's field trip to FLC. As a reminder, we're heading up to the FLC's Center for Southwest Studies and their Art Department next Thursday to check out a few inspiring exhibitions related to our curriculum. The goal is to help you make connections to course themes AND provide you with inspiration for your final project. ONE of the exhibitions is a display of Chip Thomas's work. In order to get ready for that field trip, please do the following three bullet point items:
4. Read to page 76 by Monday and page 108 by Tuesday. Annotate (w/ sticky notes) for pages/ideas that help you answer the thematic questions posted on slides 19 and 21 of this powerpoint. Hardcopies of the thematic questions available in class and also linked here. 5. Take the class participation self-assessment That's it! Easy Peasy! Wish I were there with you guys today but looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Ceremony next week.
